January 15, Bangkok -Infineon Technologies AG announced today the official commencement of construction for a new backend semiconductor manufacturing facility in Samut Prakan Province, south of Bangkok, Thailand. The plant will specialize in power module production, reinforcing the company's position in decarbonization and digitalization markets.


Rutger Wijburg, Chief Operations Officer of Infineon, emphasized: "This state-of-the-art backend wafer fab in Thailand represents a strategic response to two megatrends – decarbonization and digitalization – that are fundamentally reshaping semiconductor industry dynamics. Our €1.8 billion investment serves dual purposes: matching frontend capacity growth while optimizing cost structures through geographical diversification. The facility's operational blueprint prioritizes three pillars: energy efficiency through Industry 4.0 integration, quality assurance via AI-powered inspection systems, and supply chain agility via localized R&D capabilities."
